素材を深く知る

今日の身の回りにあるものは安い、加工しやすい、軽くて丈夫な素材で溢れている。自然素材を利用するには手間とコストがかかることが多く、その手間を省くことで自然本来の良さを工程を踏むプロダクトが多い。そこでもう一度、素材を深くリサーチすることで何を大切にすべきなのかを考えてゆく。

What we have around us today is full of cheap, easy to process, light and strong materials. The use of natural materials is often labor-intensive and costly, and there are many products that take advantage of the inherent goodness of nature by eliminating that labor. So, once again, by deeply researching the materials, I think about what should be important.
リブ構造とウール

羊毛を利用したランドリーバックを製作。リサーチを進める中で、羊毛は様々な能力を持ち、得意不得意の分野があるなど新たな視点で発見することができた。天然繊維であるウールを利用するのならば、素材そのものを活用したプロダクトを製作しようと考えた。耐久性を出すためには化学物質や機材を利用しなければならないことがわかったので、素材に厚みに強弱をつけフェルト化させることで素材の強度をあげられるのではないかと考えた。リブ状の厚みをつけた側面に底面をつけ同時にフェルト化させることで形状を維持することに成功した。
Rib structure and Wool.

A laundry bag made from wool. In the course of my research, I was able to discover from a new perspective that wool has a variety of abilities and has areas of strength and weakness. If I were going to use wool, a natural fiber, I decided to make a product that made use of the material itself. Since I knew that I had to use chemicals and equipment to achieve durability, I thought that I could increase the strength of the material by felting it with varying thicknesses. I succeeded in maintaining the shape by felting the ribbed sides and the bottom at the same time.
